Xtellus Introduces MicroWSS 2x1 for the Optical Network Edge
Extends the Reach and Value of WSS technology
MORRIS PLAINS, NJ, Sept. 11, 2007 - Xtellus, a leading supplier of advanced Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS) ROADM technology for the metro and long-haul optical equipment markets, announced today the introduction of a MicroWSS 2x1 switch. Based on Xtellus's proprietary liquid crystal optical processor, the MicroWSS architecture offers compelling cost and performance advantages for Degree 2 ROADM nodes that other current WSS architectures cannot match. As a 3-port DWDM device it can select any combination of wavelengths from an Input port and an Add port and direct these to a common Output port, as well as individually equalize the optical power of each outgoing wavelength. Based on Xtellus's advanced modular free space optics, the MicroWSS 2x1delivers far superior optical performance compared to other vendors lower performance IPLC-based offerings. With the resurgence of optical networks and the growth of 10G and 40G, the superior ultrawide passband characteristics of the MicroWSS 2x1 offer virtually unlimited cascading of 10G and 40G signals through multiple ROADM nodes.
"We regard the MicroWSS 2x1 as a breakthrough product extending the proven capital and operational benefits of ROADMs beyond just core and regional network deployments to ALL Degree 2 metro nodes including those at the edge of the network," commented Dr. Sam Suh, CTO of Xtellus. "Designed from day one with an ultra-compact form factor, our MicroWSS delivers not only the highest performance but cost-optimized manufacturability as well. This will spur an order-of-magnitude increase in ROADM deployments."
Xtellus is the only supplier that can provide scalable WSS covering the full of range of required port counts and cost points. Xtellus's family of Wavelength Selective Switches, covering C and L bands and 50 and 100 GHz spacing, provide unparalleled performance, reliability and flexibility for state-of-the-art ROADM subsystems. These include 1x1 (wavelength blocker), 1x2, 1x4, 1x9 and higher port count WSS to enable optimization for various ROADM configurations.
